In 2020, the COVID crisis had just started and CAT was looking for fosters for special needs cats. As a veterinarian, I signed up to take on a scrawny ringworm cat with a horrible upper respiratory infection. We fell in love with Virginia, or Ginny as we called her, and ended up adopting her. She fit right in immediately!
Ginny was always an unlucky cat in the health department. After a severe liver infection, she went on to have autoimmune diseases, allergic asthma, food allergies, airborne allergies, a non-painful degenerative muscle disease, stomatitis, and eventually sinus cancer. Ginny was a trooper for all her medications, blood tests, surgeries, MRI scans and treatments.
Ginny loved every person, cat and dog unconditionally. One of our recent foster cats loved her so much that we ended up adopting him! As disabled and medicated Ginny always was, she was always around us. Ginny loved to play with one of our dog’s toys. She would straddle his football with her chest, and spin around while occasionally stopping to bunny kick it. Every night, she would sleep on my pillow with me and use her paws to adjust my head for maximum cuddling. She cuddled during the day with our other cats. She loved snagging pizza when she could.
We just lost our beloved Ginny to her sinus cancer. We have never regretted adopting our little lemon, as she gave us and the other pets in our house so much joy! We will never forget Ginny. Thank you CAT for sharing her with us!
