My name is Kathy and my husband Tim and I adopted Fred and George from CAT when they were 6 years old in January 2015. At that time, I was volunteering for Surgery Check In followed by Hospital Caregiving on Friday mornings at CAT. I had a little down time between volunteer shifts so I would spend time cleaning kennels in the Main Room. That is where I first met Fred. He had several ribbons on his kennel from the Lewis & Clark Cat Show in Portland from the previous weekend. Next, I met his brother George in the hospital. George had a feeding tube and was recovering from Fatty Liver Syndrome. George and Fred were litter mates and were to be adopted as a bonded pair. I was told that they had been adopted and were just waiting for George to be released. It turned out that the adopters were concerned about George health wise. Tim and I had a beloved cat named Miles that had that condition when he was about eight years old. He recovered and lived with us another eight years. We knew that if George could recover, he would be fine. When they came up for adoption again, I took photos and sent them to Tim. He was all in to meet them and once we did, we knew they were perfect for us.
CAT made the whole process so easy, giving Tim time to meet them. Sadly we just lost Fred to Chylothorax, but George is still with us and we are loving him every day. We are grateful to CAT for bringing these wonderful boys into our lives.
