Julie’s Story

My husband, Joe, and I were devastated when our 18-year-old, 16-pound Maine Coon, Hogie, succumbed to an aggressive mouth cancer in 2019. We’d fallen in love with this breed, so full of character and personality and decided to wait until another found us. I alerted our friend Karen Green to our wishes and not long after, she let us know that a Maine Coon kitten had arrived at CAT—but wouldn’t last long! We dashed to the shelter and it was love at first cuddle. Not only did CAT facilitate a seamless adoption, but Karen volunteered to kitten-sit as we were headed out of town for the weekend. We named him Rocky. Now he’s four years old and 13 pounds of explosive energy and furry fun. Since Joe passed away last Summer, Rocky and I have been heartbroken. But together we’re moving ahead—taking mini-road trips, visiting his kitty cousins across town, taking walks with his backpack, settling into our new home. Despite the gray shroud of winter weather and life circumstances, Rocky’s snuggles, tail-straight-up-in-the air antics and kitty kisses bring me abundant comfort and joy. Thank you for making us a family, CAT!
