In November of 2019, we had lost a dear feline family member, and were looking to adopt a companion for our remaining cat (who unbeknownst to us we would also lose just a month later). I saw a CAT post on Instagram and felt a pull toward two young tuxedo’ed cats, Kit and Kat. My husband and I drove down to meet them and fell in love. He said that they looked like they should be wearing bowler hats and bow ties (especially Kit, with his pencil mustache), so we decided to name them Mr. Kitterson and Mr. Katterson. They moved into our house and our hearts immediately. We can’t know what happened to these boys in their first year of life, before they were dropped off at a shelter in Multnomah county, but it definitely left an imprint on them. They started out with serious food insecurity issues, which we resolved by getting an automated feeder that feeds them on a predictable schedule and disassociates us from their idea of a food source. They are still somewhat anxious about loud noises or sudden movements, including being terrified by our ceiling fans (so we just don’t turn them on – anything for the cats!). I feel like my experiences as a person with an anxiety disorder have helped me to empathize with them and make their environment as supportive as possible. And they have brought laughter and love to our lives during times of great upheaval. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the great team at Cat Adoption Team to anyone looking to bring a cat into their lives.
