After careful consideration, CAT’s Board of Directors has made the difficult but necessary decision to close our thrift store, which has been a cherished part of CAT for more than 13 years.
The thrift store is loved by many, and we are grateful for the warmth and community it has fostered. Our dedicated staff and volunteers have created a welcoming environment for everyone—thrifters, cat lovers, and of course, the cats themselves.
Since we opened the store in 2011, the primary goal has been to raise funds to support CAT’s mission. Over the years, we saw revenue grow. However, like many small businesses, we’ve been hit hard by inflation and other market factors in recent years. Net revenue no longer justifies a full retail operation.
We considered many options for potential changes, and carefully weighed the various costs and benefits of the store. Ultimately, the board unanimously agreed that while the store has been a beloved part of CAT, it no longer serves as an effective way to further CAT’s mission, which must remain our top priority.
What’s Next?
We plan to wrap up retail operations at the store at the end of June. We have donation appointments scheduled through mid-May, though are no longer adding new appointments. We’ll also be adding backstock, fixtures, and supplies to the floor over time, so shoppers will continue to see new items available. Please come see us!
Our thrift store team is invaluable, and we will work closely with them throughout this process to ensure a smooth transition.
Thank you to the donors, shoppers, staff, and volunteers who have made the store such a special place.
