When Kit arrived at CAT, she was underweight, scared, and heavily pregnant with kittens. In order to give her the best care possible, we sought out a foster family to give her a quiet, stress-free environment in which she could rest and await the arrival of her litter. Less than a week after her move to foster, she welcomed three colorful babes. Their safety wouldn’t have been possible without the love and attention of our foster families.

At Cat Adoption Team, we work hard to make the shelter a comfortable and inviting place for our feline residents. Whether it’s a kennel with extra toys, alternative housing in the form of an office or free-roam room, or an additional play session with our socialization team, we strive to do well by the cats that are temporarily in our care. Still, some of the ones we care for need alternatives that the building itself cannot offer.
That’s where a unique team of volunteers steps in to provide that extra-special support. Thanks to the love and kindness of our foster families, Cat Adoption Team is able to help nearly 1000 kittens each year. While we support cats and kittens year round, we see an influx during Kitten Season, in the spring.
Here are a handful of ways you can help litters like Mama Kit and her crew this Kitten Season:
- Donate: Providing for the animals in our care is costly. Many of the kittens in foster care are with us longer than the average adult cat. That bill can get long quickly. Your funds can help ensure that we’re able to offer the best care possible.
- Adopt: Searching to add a fuzzy family member to your household? Now’s a great time to find that purrr-fect friend.
- Foster: Can’t adopt? Maybe you can host a kitten or a litter for a short while so that we can make room at the shelter to help other cats. You don’t need much space, we’ll provide the training and mentorship, and you can choose how long you’d like to host. Spoiler alert: most of our foster volunteers fall in love and become an integral part of our fostering community and often train to become mentors themselves!
- Support: Visit our registry to see the top items our Foster Department needs this time of year.
- Tell Folks: Follow us on social media for updates and to help more kittens that need you! Did we mention they’re super-cute?
