Meet the People: Anna

Teal background banner with a yellow circle at center. A person holds a tabby cat in front of the yellow circle. Text on the right reads "meet the people"

Anna has been hanging around the shelter for nearly 5 years. She began her journey with us as a volunteer in 2020 and was hired as a Shelter Associate a year later. Soon after that, she added Admissions Associate to her resume, and just a few months ago she moved into her current role as Admissions and Community Support Programs Coordinator (say that 10 times fast!).

She coordinates the flow of incoming kitties and coordinates two of our community support programs: the Keeping Cats in Homes fund and Aleece Runge Fund for Senior Cats. She also assists with making appointments for our low-cost spay/neuter clinic.

CAT: Tell us about your pets, please!
Anna: Bat is a grumpy but lovable senior kitty adopted from CAT in 2020. Rex is my majestic forever kitten adopted from CAT in 2022 (see above photo). Bonnie is our 54 lbs Texan rescue and most perfect dog. Together, they have mastered the art of taking naps on me at once. They’re that talented.

CAT: Would you rather be the funniest or smartest person in the room?
Anna: Both? I think being smart and funny go hand in hand.

CAT: What is your go-to karaoke anthem?
Anna: My husband and I have been known to do a mean duet of “I Got You, Babe” by Sonny and Cher.

CAT: If you could instantly learn any language, what would it be?
Anna: Japanese! I’m fascinated by Japan.

CAT: Share a weird or wild fact you know.
Anna: Though it is often thought that cats first became fully domesticated in Ancient Egypt times, a grave was discovered in Cyprus dating back 9,500 years that contained a pet cat that was buried with their owner. Proof that cats have ruled humans for over 9,000 years.

CAT: What’s your favorite joke?
Anna:
I play music as a hobby, so musician jokes always get a chuckle out of me, especially self-deprecating ones. I’m a bass player and my husband is a drummer. “Hear about the drummer who locked his keys in the van? It took him an hour to get the bass player out!”

CAT: If you suddenly had a day off, what would you do with your time?
Anna: Go on a hike with my husband and the dog, jump in a river, and go wine tasting. Then watch a movie at home with a kitty (or two!) on my lap!

If you want to talk music or animals, look no further than our Anna. At the shelter, when she’s not unloading transport vehicles or performing admissions exams, you’ll find her helping pet parents find resources for their fuzzy friends. Say “hey” next time you see her around the building.
