CAT Thrift Store Thanks You for 14 years

To the CAT Thrift Store Community,

Our journey as your beloved secondhand store has come to a close as of June 28. This is a bittersweet moment along our journey as an organization; as the thrift store has been offering unique thrift finds while also creating a community and many memories for more than 13 years. It’s been an incredible ride, with moments of joy, excitement, seemingly insurmountable odds, and invaluable learning.

To our customers and supporters: Thank you. Your belief and trust in us have been the driving force behind our every step, making a lasting impact on CAT’s mission of supporting cats and their families. Thank you for visiting, donating, shopping, and adopting cats from the store.

To our dedicated team: Your passion and hard work have been the core of our journey. We’re grateful beyond words for every moment and your dedication and ability to create a community within the space.

While this chapter ends, the bonds and memories we’ve created endure. CAT continues its work through CAT’s shelter in Sherwood providing adoption, foster care, and community support services. We are eternally grateful to anyone and everyone that was involved. The spirit of collaboration and community will remain in the hearts (and purrs) of those involved and in CAT’s ongoing efforts. We’d love it if you could share your favorite moments and stories with us as we close this amazing chapter of our lives.

I am saddened to hear about the closure of your thrift store.  We got our wonderful cat Ivy (formerly Italy) from there (she was the cat ambassador at the time).  I’m sure she appreciated the attention from the store’s staff and the opportunity CAT gave her to find her furever home. Thank you for the work you do.

This is very sad. I had adopted a wonderful year old chartreau gray bundle of fluff named Trixie. I had adopted her from the Petco out by the Airport, through CAT back during the summer of 2009. We were together for almost 16 years. At 17, she got diagnosed with cancer after I brought her to Banfield. Her health had started to decline over the last year of her life. I stuck by her side while we peacefully helped her cross the rainbow bridge this April 16, 2025. May she spend eternity in Cat Heaven. I miss my adorable and lovable fluff muffin 😥💔

😽😿🙀 thanks to staff and volunteers 🙌👏 for so many years. The kitty store mascots at the door when we shopped. Always a highlight of shopping 🛍️. You will be missed 😻

Colleen

I also donated exclusively to CAT over the years. I'm so sad to see it go, but I'm sure there will be other fun opportunities to help the cats moving forward. I bought a cute porcelain cat-shaped tea pot at a volunteer event and it's a treasured find ✨️🐈‍⬛️

CAT thrift is the best shop in the metro area, and I know, I’ve been to ALL of them. The best thing is the cats, of course, and I just adopted an amazing one last fall. I really enjoyed shopping with you because the prices were great, it was never crowded and always relaxed. Thank you for being there as long as you were able. 😺

I adopted Chonkey in November 2023 and every day I am SO grateful for @catadoptpdx & the store 🥹🫶🏻 I’m so glad I came across Chonkey’s reel back in 2023 he came into my life right when I needed him! He can definitely be a menace but he adds so much joy to the apartment 🥹 he’s absolutely loving this weather & bird watching with the windows cracked. Thank you for bringing him into my life 🫶🏻

I am so very sad to hear this! You have been my happy place! Good luck to all of you!

ZuZu loves his buggy from CAT. Walks and naps!

Murrianna

That’s hard but understandable. I have a old briefcase and roasting dish I still love

Ana

Really great memories working there AND shopping there! Truly one of the best thrift stores in the portland area 😢

Our cat, who at the time was called Lizzie McGuire, lived at Cat CAT Thrift Store until she found her forever and ever and ever home with us in Jan. 2017. Her name is Rajah now and she is the QUEEN of our home and we are so grateful she was so cared for by your team before she joined our family.

This is Rosie (previously Lexie). She was a store ambassador in October of 2022. When we went to pick her up from the store, we opened our cat crate and she walked right in, like she knew she was going home. 😻
We'll miss the store, we shopped there often.
Love, CC, Dax, and Rosie.

I'm going to miss you guys! Because of you all I got the sweetest most gentle kitty! Jazzy has been the best and we are all sad to hear you all have to close. I've gotten so many cool items and good deals from you.

Liz

I loved donating to this store because it was well-run - clean, well organized and cared for.

Lynn

I love shopping here! Great finds and I know my money is helping out so many kitties! It will be so sad to say goodbye to your fun shop!

Our Willow was a Thrift Store cat. She has been absolutely the BEST fit for us. She brings us so much amusement and love. Thank you for helping us find each other.

This has been my all-time favorite thrift store, and I have enjoyed it so much since I moved to this neighborhood 10 years ago

My boyfriend swore he saw a picture of me and my roommate on your Instagram, and I went to your page and was surprised to see that it was true and that the thrift store is closing down! I adopted my cat Biff from the thrift store way back in 2018 where I was charmed by him confidently parading around the store despite the fact that he'd just arrived there. It was definitely a rough adjustment period for several months when I first got him since he was having more behavioral problems than other cats that I've adopted and he was struggling to adjust to a new home, but ever since we got over the initial hurdle he's been a wonderful friendly cat who just wants to take it easy and be around his favorite people. Although he's slowing down now that he's getting older and is starting to lose sight in one of his eyes, I feel very fortunate that he's lived to be a senior citizen despite having FIV, and I'm glad that the Cat Adoption Team made it possible for me to adopt him. I'm sad to hear that the thrift store will be closing, but I'll keep recommending CAT to anyone looking to adopt a cat and I hope for the best for your staff, volunteers, and all the cats looking for homes! I've attached recent pics of Biff living his best life.
