(Dec. 16, 2021) – Cat Adoption Team was surprised with a $26,000 check from Petco Love during a celebration at Petco earlier today, all thanks to two pet adopter stories submitted in the Petco Love Stories campaign.
Winning Petco Love Stories:
- During the isolation of the COVID-19 lockdown, a foster cat named Lilly brought Sandi Martin and her husband joy and comfort. Not long after Lilly became a part of their family, she sniffed out a gas leak in their home—alerting her pet parents to the danger. Read Sandi’s story.
- Sheri Karpa and her family were facing challenges, including the loss of their two beloved cats. When Sheri’s youngest son began to succumb to depression and anxiety, the love of a cat named Luna brought him back to himself. Read Sheri’s story.
“These stories show how adopted cats change our lives for the better, and we are so thankful Sandi and Sheri shared their stories in the annual Petco Love Stories campaign to help us receive grant awards. These funds will help us bring more cats in need together with loving families,” said Karen Green, executive director at CAT.
“These powerful Love Stories reflect the importance of pets in our lives. Whether the best or worst of times, the love of pets can change everything,” said Petco Love President, Susanne Kogut. “Reading these touching tales strengthens our resolve to create a world where every shelter pet finds a loving family, and no pet is unnecessarily euthanized. This year, we are proud to award more than $1 million to further empower lifesaving organizations, like Cat Adoption Team, that work tirelessly to save pet lives.”
Since 2013, more than 20,000 adopters have shared how their pets have changed their lives in the annual campaign, with Petco Love granting nearly $7 million to the hardworking animal welfare organizations making these adoption matches possible. For more, visit petcolove.org/lovestories.
