PetSmart Charities awards $50,500 to local animal shelter

PetSmart Charities

[November 21, 2017 – Portland, OR] —The Cat Adoption Team (CAT), located in Sherwood, Ore., has received two generous grants from PetSmart Charities® that will help the cat shelter improve medical care and save more feline lives.

A generous $35,000 grant from PetSmart Charities will help CAT purchase its first animal transport vehicle for the Nine Lives Transfer Program. CAT is increasingly able to bring in cats from shelters outside the Portland metro area. The addition of an animal transport vehicle will help ensure that at-risk cats from distant shelter partners can be transferred safely to CAT for adoption.

PetSmart Charities also donated $15,500 for upgrades to equipment in CAT’s onsite hospital. A portion of this grant funded a new digital dental x-ray machine—a significant improvement over CAT’s film x-ray process.

“Our hospital currently performs more than 100 feline dental surgeries each year,” said Karen Green, executive director of CAT, “This new equipment funded by PetSmart Charities has cut 20 minutes off each procedure while improving quality.

The remaining funds from this grant covered the cost of new commercial washer and dryer units for CAT’s hospital. These machines, designed specifically for use in a veterinary hospital setting, will improve efficiency, capacity, and disease control in the hospital.

Since 1998, CAT has helped more than 42,000 cats and kittens make their way to loving new homes. By investing in long-lasting equipment, PetSmart Charities’ support will help save many thousand more lives at CAT over the coming years.
