More than 60 Homeless Cats Flying from Texas to Oregon

[Sherwood, OR – February 22, 2019] — More than 60 homeless cats will take flight this weekend from Texas to Oregon. The Cat Adoption Team (CAT), located in Sherwood, Ore., is expecting the cats from a crowded shelter in Texas.

The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) has seen a surge in animals entering its shelter in the past year. In an effort to save the lives of as many of these pets as possible, the organization began working with the ASPCA® (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) Animal Relocation Team in February 2018. Even with more than 11,000 adoptions and 1,000 animal transfers last year, the Texas shelter continues to run at-capacity.

CAT is collaborating with the ASPCA® and Wings of Rescue™ to take in over 60 cats and kittens to help free up space and resources at HSNT. The Sherwood-based shelter regularly transfers in cats from local agencies and other organizations to give the animals a second chance at finding homes.

“CAT is proud to be part of a network of organizations that work together to save lives,” says Karen Green, CAT’s executive director. “We’re fortunate to be in a position right now to help the Humane Society of North Texas by transferring these cats to our shelter for adoption.”

The cats will fly into Oregon on Saturday, February 23. A team of CAT staff and volunteers will be waiting to transport the felines to the shelter’s main location in Sherwood. CAT will then provide veterinary exams and any other necessary medical treatment—including spay/neuter surgeries—before placing the cats up for adoption. Cats from the flight will be available to meet potential adopters beginning on Tuesday, February 26.

CAT is located at 14175 SW Galbreath Drive, Sherwood, OR 97140. To learn more about cats available for adoption or to make a donation to help defray the cost of rescue efforts like these, visit CAT’s website at catadoptionteam.org.
