Meet The People: Sarah

Meet Sarah, Cat Adoption Team’s new Executive Director. Sarah joined the team in mid-January and she reports that her first three months on the job have been “a wonderful whirlwind getting to know the team, the volunteers, and all the incredible work happening here.” We’re thrilled she’s joined the team. Read on to learn a little more about Sarah.

CAT: Do you have any pets? What can you tell us about them?
Sarah: I do! I have 2 seniors, my 15-year old cat Juju and my 13-year old pup Quigley. Juju is more of a homebody and loves nothing more than snuggles and sitting in front of her favorite show (the fireplace). Quigley, on the other hand, has been my adventure partner his whole life. They’ve both even lived overseas with me. Quigley was truly perplexed the first time a troop of monkeys ran through our back garden!

CAT: Besides a cat, what’s your favorite animal?
Sarah: It would be impossible for me to pick a favorite!! I lived in East Africa off and on for nearly 10 years and would regularly visit preserves, game parks and sanctuaries. No matter how many times I would visit I would always be in absolute awe. That said, I have always been enamored by giraffes; however, while I was living in Kenya there was an elephant sanctuary for orphaned elephants that I would regularly visit, it’s a special place. That said, the last 6 months I’ve been absolutely OBSESSED with a prehensile-tailed porcupine named Empanada (if you haven’t seen one of these little guys I highly recommend checking him out!!) OH and I love a good river otter moment… see, impossible to choose a favorite!

CAT: When you’re not at CAT, what do you like to do with your time?
Sarah: My happy place is in the woods and the mountains; I do my best to get out as frequently as I can.

CAT: What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
Sarah: “Follow your heart.”
Another is actually from an old(ish) song so it might not count, but having moved around for most of my adult life, I’ve thought of this quote often “Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young” Some of my dearest friends I have known for well over 30-years and the older I get the more I appreciate friendships that span through so many decades of life.

We are glad Sarah followed her heart to CAT. If you see Sarah at the shelter, say, ”hi” and maybe you can share your favorite hiking spot and animal stories.
