Meet the People: Michelle Unger

The printer who loves pets.

Seventeen years ago, Michelle Unger came CAT to adopt a kitten. She met two all-black kittens who had come in from a hoarding situation. One had an eye infection so severe that our hospital team had surgically removed his left eye. He was recovering with his sister in their kennel. Michelle couldn’t resist. Max and Lily became her family.

Fast forward a year. Michelle had an interview at Morel Ink, a local print shop and mail house. During her chat with co-founder Bill Dickey, she learned he had recently adopted from CAT as well. That adoption started a relationship between Morel Ink and CAT that continues today with Michelle’s support.

“We are all animal lovers at Morel Ink,” Michelle says. “And we love to give back. It’s all part of the passion that drives our partnerships.”

As an account manager, Michelle works with clients like CAT to provide print, promotional, large format, and mail service. But it’s more than that. “I consider all my clients like family,” she says. “Many of these people I’ve known for 10-plus years. We’ve been together for weddings, funerals, babies, and adopting pets. I really value these relationships.”

After Max and Lily both passed away (Max at 16!), Michelle turned to CAT find love again. She began following some CAT fosters on social media. One popular group included a mom cat with nine kittens. Michelle assumed they would all find homes quickly. But when adoption day arrived, she saw a post that her two favorite kittens hadn’t received any applications.

“I was staring at their photo and couldn’t believe it,” shares Michelle. “They were so stinkin’ cute!” She asked a colleague if she should go for it. The obvious reply: “Adopt them!”

Now Eddie and Felix bring “companionship and constant love” into Michelle’s life every day. She also keeps in touch with many of their littermates’ adopters through her Instagram account @EddieFelix2019. “It’s so fun to see photos of their family members,” she says. “They all lie on their backs in the exact same position!”

Michelle is a huge fan of CAT’s foster program. She’s also a longtime business partner, supporter, adopter, donor, and friend to CAT.

In addition to providing print and mail support for CAT this year, Morel Ink is the presenting sponsor of CAT’s Whisker Wonderland. The company also donates printing of the CAT Calendar annually. We are grateful to partner with The Printer Who Loves Pets!
