Year in Review

CAT experienced some dips during the recession. As we began to emerge on the other side, we had some great successes. A huge thank you to CAT’s donors, volunteers, and adopters for their continued support.

Adoption:

  • 2,475 cats/kittens
  • 23% of adoptions took place at our offsite adoption centers
  • 52% of adoptions were kittens
  • 61% of the cats/kittens adopted were black or mostly black
  • 29,591 total adoptions since founding in 1998 (through December 31, 2012)

Intake:

  • 2,491 cats/kittens from other shelters and the public
  • 77% of these cats came from other shelters and 23% came from the public
  • 680 kittens and 78 moms were fostered
  • 100 families opened their homes to foster

Spay/Neuter:

  • 3,296 total surgeries
  • 2,048 were low cost/subsidized surgeries for owned cats
  • 8% increase in number of surgeries done for owned cats over 2011

Cat Food Bank:

  • 33,331.92 pounds of cat food distributed (closed for 2 months due to flood)
  • 3,984 cats fed
  • 1,274 families assisted
  • 130,364.7 total pounds distributed since opening in June 2008 (through December 31, 2012)
  • First organized pet food bank in the Portland-area
  • 5,110.3 pounds of cat food provided to home-bound seniors through partnership with two Meals on Wheels centers and one senior center

Volunteerism:

  • 601active volunteers touching all aspects of CAT’s operations
  • 8 offsite adoption centers staffed and run by volunteers
  • Over 52,519 hours of service donated, which is equivalent to 35 full time employees
  • 27,969 donated hours were spent fostering cats and kittens
  • 6,743 donated hours were spent caring for the cats in the shelter
  • 9,083 donated hours were spent finding homes for cats and kittens through our offsite adoption centers
  • 5,181 donated hours were spent helping cat lovers find the right kitty (adoption counseling)
  • 1,062 hours were spent taking cute photos of our cats for adoption and posting them on the web

Donation Programs:

  • 512 donors supported CAT through the Willamette Week Give!Guide year-end program (9% increase)
  • 359 runners/walkers registered for the 4th Annual CATnip 5k & Mouse Miler
  • Significant grants received in 2012: $166,000+
