More than 50% of pet cats in the United States are overweight, according to the latest research. To change that, the volunteer team at CAT’s adoption center inside the Petco Tualatin (8775 Tualatin-Sherwood Rd.) has developed a “kitty spa” to help some full-figured CAT cats become their healthiest selves.
Cats of all shapes and sizes come to the Cat Adoption Team looking for new families. After a thorough veterinary exam by our knowledgeable hospital staff, some cats receive a recommendation for a special diet and/or weight loss regimen. Our hospital staff helps create a plan for each cat to lose weight at a slow, steady, and healthy pace. If possible, these cats move offsite to be housed at CAT’s adoption center inside at the Tualatin Petco. There, CAT volunteers work specifically with overweight kitties to give them extra playtime and manage the cats’ diets so that each kitty can become his/her healthiest self.
In May, CAT and Petco hosted an open house at the Living Room & Kitty Spa which featured refreshments, games, raffles, vendor booths, and informative demos about how to keep your cat healthy and happy. The volunteer team there continues to work with cats on weight loss and health programs. All of the cats housed at the Petco Tualatin are available for adoption through CAT. Our trained adoption counselors work with adopters to share all the information about how to continue each cat’s training and diet plan after they go home. After all, playtime is a great opportunity to interact and bond with a new kitty!
Stop by to meet the available cats any time during Petco’s open hours. CAT’s volunteer adoption counselors are onsite to assist with adoptions from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends; during the week adoptions are completed at CAT’s main shelter in Sherwood (14175 SW Galbreath Dr.).
