Providing for Your Cat’s Care After You are Gone

Loving her even after you are gone

At CAT, we promote the human-animal bond and make lifetime commitments to our pets. Responsible cat owners like you plan for the future to ensure their cat’s well-being.

CAT’s Loving Legacy Program gives you peace of mind by offering a safe, caring place for your cat in the event he or she outlives you.

For cats enrolled in the program, CAT provides all necessary veterinary care at our Sherwood shelter before facilitating adoption into lifetime, carefully selected homes. By enrolling your cat in the Loving Legacy Program, you provide a secure, safe future for your beloved companion.

Enrolling your cat in the “Loving Legacy” Program

  • Complete the Loving Legacy Program Enrollment form (pdf) providing information about your pet’s behavior, likes and dislikes, habits, and special needs
  • Send a copy of the Loving Legacy Program Enrollment form, copies of your pet’s medical records, and your enrollment fee to the Cat Adoption Team, attn: Development Manager. Keep a copy with your will.
  • Please provide yearly updated veterinary records, if possible. If you have multiple cats, please fill out a Cat Profile (part of the complete Enrollment form) for each one
  • Specify in your will that your pet(s) is to be entrusted to the Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood, Oregon. The language should read: “At the time of my death, I give, devise, and bequeath my cat enrolled in the “Loving Legacy” Program to the Cat Adoption Team in Sherwood, Oregon (EIN# 20-0773189), for placement into a loving home.” Clearly state the bequest amount of funds, what form they are in (cash, stock, life insurance, etc.), and that they are to be designated to the Cat Adoption Team on a per cat basis
  • Designate a friend, neighbor, relative, or the executor of your estate to act as an interim caretaker and contact the Cat Adoption Team for the best way to handle the transfer of your cat to CAT. Always carry a card in your wallet letting people know you have animals at home who depend on your care
