Meatloaf

Meatloaf - fka Riki

Dear CAT,
We adopted Meatloaf, the 15 pound wonder (formally known as Riki) in July 2009. We fell in love with him at the shelter when we saw the way he would saunter about the room like royalty. Once we brought him home his swagger only got more pronounced. This cat is downright enchanting and we could not be happier to have him. No one can resist the allure of Meatloaf…even people who don’t like cats fall victim to his charm.
At first we weren’t sure about adopting a cat with F.I.V., but we found some helpful information and decided that it wasn’t a terribly big deal. And to be quite honest, once you feast your eyes on this rascal, you will understand. He was exactly what we needed to make this house a home and we are so grateful to have found him.
Thanks CAT!

Patches

Patches

It’s been more than a year since we adopted our baby Patches and we couldn’t be more pleased. She is feisty yet gentle, funny, and mischievous. She brings me so much joy every day! She loves to perch on one of her many windows and watch the birds, chase her balls, and mice toys or just hang out with her mommy as I get ready for work in the morning. I must admit, we have lost two Christmas ornaments, one magnet, and two phone charger cords to her playing and chewing, but all were well worth it as she has become a very good kitty. I can’t imagine not having her to come home to every day.

As soon as I can convince Patches daddy that she needs a brother we will be back to find another perfect match.

Thank you CAT for all you do!

Jicama

Jicama catching a ride with Kyle

Hi CAT:

First off I have to say that our little kitten has brought so much joy to our lives!  She is just wonderful. We now call her Jicama (she was Bree at CAT). She is full of energy and a real cuddler. She comes running when we come in the door and wants to be held. She loves sitting up on our shoulders. She is a wonderful fit for our family and fit her description well.

Jicama loves to help with chores around the house! She chases the laundry when I sort it into piles and gets in the laundry basket when I am folding clothes out of the dryer. She also helps me cook. She has a little stool she sits on and she watches me cook the whole time I am in the kitchen.
Having a cat is really what we needed in our lives. I am grad student so I am often at least slightly stressed out, but having a fuzzy, adorable little kitten who loves you to come home to, it is instantly relaxing. When I get home I immediately cuddle up to her and feel more at ease. She is a wonderful addition to our family and we could not be happier.

Thank you - Katie and Kyle

Cora

Cora

I adopted Anastasia in early November. I renamed her Cora (the name just came to me!)

She was a nervous wreck when we met at the shelter, but she has soon become a very affectionate companion. She likes to be in the same room with me at all times, often headbutts, and always sleeps on my pillow next to my head at night.

She’s getting along with her housemate cat pretty well, too!  She has FIV, but seems healthy as can be.

And did I mention playful and mischievous?  I’m so happy I adopted my Cora cat!

Thank you C.A.T. for a wonderful pet!

Taiwan

Taiwan

Dear CAT

All I asked for Christmas was your 2009 CAT calendar. My fiance purchased it at our vet, Cat Care Professionals.

To my surprise my beloved cat Made In Taiwan, formerly know as Betty Sue, is Miss December!

I adopted Made In Taiwan April 27, 2008.

I just wanted you to know she has found a forever home. She is happy, healthy and runs our house. We couldn’t have asked for a better cat.

Thank you,
Angela W.

Megatron

Papoose goes home

Hi CAT:

My husband and I adopted Papoose (we renamed him Megatron) about a week ago. He had a little kitty cold when we brought him home so he was kind of lethargic. He is now a very healthy and playful kitty. He is just the most cuddly little guy.

He loves to sit on your lap, or stomach, chest, face..wherever he pleases really. I love that he can sleep with me on my pillow through the whole night. He has never once strayed from his litter box so nothing to worry about there! We couldn’t be happier with our decision to adopt a baby from C.A.T. and we will probably be back to get a sibling for our little guy soon!

Alexander

Alexander relaxing knowing he has a new family

Alexander is doing very well after just one week. He is confidently exploring the house, lounging in all of the windows, snoozing under the bed, chasing string “monsters,” using his litter box without fail, eating his kibble, taking his shots like a brave boy [Alexander is diabetic], drinking tons of water as usual, expecting (and receiving!) tons of human affection, and making new friends (or at least, ignoring those lesser beings, known as dogs!).
By Friday, Alexander was confidently exploring the house with the dogs. He seems to have no interest in the guinea pigs. There were only a few hissing incidents when he thought the dogs were too close for comfort. Fortunately, the dogs take their cue to walk away. The animals seem to tolerate each other quite well. In fact, Alexander got a lick/kiss on the nose from Fozzie the Poodle this morning and merely meowed in response before jumping into “his” window.
Robert and I are so pleased to have found Alexander. He is a wonderful cat and we grow more attached each day as we get to know him.

Murphy

Murphy, adopted in 1999 (© KLamm)

Dear CAT:

After my cat Rusty unexpectedly died I went to CAT to find a new friend to help me get over my loss. There in the arms of a volunteer was Murphy who looked very much like my former Rusty.

Murphy was very loving and gentle it was love at first sight, I needed him and he needed me! Murphy is a very studious, serious, and and sensitive cat. He gets along great with my other cats, and he and my house rabbit snuggle together.

I am a professional photographer who specializes in portraits of people and their animals. All my animals have modeled for me and appeared on magazine covers, ads, calendars, and cards. I got an idea of an image I wanted to make for my professional photography organization print competition. I designed the set and brought in the first of my 3 cats. Bubba was very interested in the decoy mouse, he pounced on it before I was ready and carried it off almost breaking it. So I went and got another volunteer; Pepper took one quick glance at the mouse but was way more fascinated with all the interesting things in the studio and was not willing to settle into looking at the little mouse. Murphy was my final hope! I brought him in the studio and showed him the mouse. He studied it just long enough for me to make 3 images and then he was done, but that was just what I needed to create the image that I wanted and an award winning photograph!

I entered it in the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts and it got an Honorable Mention Ribbon.  I entered it in the Professional Photographers of America Print competition and it was selected for the general collection and will be on display in Phoenix in January.

Rusty

Rusty with all his ribbons

Rusty was adopted from CAT in June 2007.

I entered Rusty in the Household Pet Class at the recent cat show (September 2008). There were 7 feline entries and 4 judges for this class. The judges took each cat out, one at a time, and placed them on the table to inspect the cat, looking for ear cleanliness, clarity of the eyes, and overall coat condition. The cat’s personality was also considered. Each judge judged all 7 cats.

Rusty received two 6th place ribbons, one 3rd place ribbon, and ONE 2nd PLACE RIBBON!!!!!!

Yaya - a Katrina cat

Beautiful Yaya

I was a volunteer at the Cat Adoption Team and I spent most of my time with the kittens. I was there the night the hurricane Katrina cats were brought in (2005). It wasn’t until a week or so later that I met Yaya. She was a 2 year old black and white cat in the same area as the kittens as she had just had surgery to get fixed.

I did my best to try to get people to adopt her. When she was moved upstairs I would visit with her. It wasn’t until one day I walked in and Yaya was not there that I knew I had to adopt her. Lucky for me she was at the Wilsonville PetSmart for outreach.

Today Yaya lives with Pretty Girl (Tuxedo cat) and Jasper (orange tabby cat). She loves to play with the light reflected off my watch and her many kitty toys. She is definitely a momma’s girl. At night she curls up and holds my arm like a Koala bear.

Yaya successfully went through a difficult transition in our household as she is no longer the baby in the house. Earlier this August, I gave birth to a baby girl.

Yaya is one of the most affectionate and sweetest cats I have ever owned. I’m so glad I opened my heart to adopting an adult cat.

Best Regards,
Erika M.

Moe - a Katrina cat

Moe - a curious cat

Hi everyone at CAT:

Our wonderful kitty Moe (named after Satchmo(Louie Armstrong) in homage to his ‘jazz roots’), is doing very well and is such a wonderful addition to our family!

We adopted him along with another kitty back in 2005 because we wanted to do a small part to help the animals displaced by the hurricane. He now lives with us and his fellow cats…Ella and Mingus.

He is most definitely a ‘Daddy’s Boy,’ with his favorite spot being on Jason’s lap.  He also enjoys sitting in front of the fire, getting special treats, and rolling in catnip.  He will soon be joined by his first human brother, but I’m sure he will get along just fine!

Thank you CAT for giving us Moe, we love him and couldn’t imagine our family without him!

Sincerely,
Jason and Amanda W.
